CAMBRIDGE TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES NEXT-GENERATION ADVANCED PERFORMANCE MONITORING FOR DIGITAL SCANNING SYSTEMS

Remote Monitoring of Real-Time Laser Scanning Performance Becomes a Reality

Lexington, MA and Munich, Germany. June 18, 2007– Cambridge Technology, Inc., the market leader in galvanometer-based optical scanning technology, today announced a further innovation in their highly successful Self-tuned State Space Digital Servos for high-speed galvo scanning applications. The Smart Direct Digital Interface Protocol and the Smart Connect suite of performance monitoring tools ushers in a new era of system performance integration and monitoring capabilities and enhances the system performance benefits of Cambridge Technology’s line of all-digital scanning products. The combination of the State Space Digital Servo architecture with full 16bit digital command input and parametric reporting backchannel enable system software control capabilities not previously cost-effective or possible in the system integration world of analog or hybrid servos.

A broad range of real-time system parametric performance data can be reported for system performance optimization and control and long-term performance monitoring can be verified and monitored over the internet so even the most remote system locations can now benefit from factory-level support.  "These powerful interfaces allow for higher levels of system performance and control and remote monitoring of true system performance of galvo-based laser scanning systems  for the system integrator and  end-users.”  Said Redmond P. Aylward, President of Cambridge Technology, Inc. “The Smart Connect interface allows support engineers to interrogate and monitor real-time system performance from their desktop, bringing a new level of cost-effective support to remote installations.“

The Smart Direct and Smart Connect interfaces allows real-time monitoring of many scanning parameters such as position, temperature, true mirror position, marking error, galvo velocity, galvo voltage, galvo current, galvo power, and others provided as a 16-bit digital word from the Cambridge Technology DC900 or DC2000 digital servo over one of its high-speed serial interfaces, either the Smart Direct extended XY2-100 or the alternate high-speed serial digital protocol.

The Smart-Direct suite is available at no extra charge for DC900 and DC2000 digital servos, which are designed to drive the complete range of Cambridge Technology 62xx galvos supporting apertures from 3mm to >75mm.

About Cambridge Technology - Cambridge Technology, Inc. is the market leader in closed-loop, galvanometer based optical scanning components and supporting products. These products provide superior scanning performance to a wide variety of applications including laser marking, engraving, drilling, machining and treating, biomedical applications in Ophthalmology, DNA sequencing, and Confocal Microscopy, laser entertainment and projection, and any application where laser beam steering is required.
